Local works will be evaluated in blind adjudication by local educators, writers, and professionals.   Works will be awarded Gold Keys (the highest), Silver Keys and Honorable Mention, and awardees will be invited to participate in the Chicago Regional Writing Awards Ceremony held in March 2018 on the University of Illinois at Chicago campus.  Gold Key works, the highest regional submissioIMG_1194n, will be submitted for adjudication at the national level.  Some national winners will have their work printed in the Best Teen Writing publication, and several winners in poetry are recognized in the National Student Poets program.

Last year, the Scholastic Writing Award program received more than 320,000 submissions from talented students across the country and provided access to more than $10 million in scholarships. Since 1923, the Scholastic Awards have recognized the exceptional vision of our nation’s talented teens.

Each work of art and writing is blindly adjudicated, first locally through the more than 100 affiliates of the Alliance, and then nationally by panels of judges comprised of renowned artists, authors, educators and industry experts.
