Outstanding Teacher Consultants

Since 1979 over 350 outstanding teachers have been trained in one of CAWP’s Intensive Summer Institute to join the CAWP professional network of teacher leaders who design and present workshops and classes for other Chicago-area teachers in CAWP professional development programs.  Studies by the National Writing Project show that although many NWP teachers are identified for positions in higher education and school administration, most teachers involved in NWP sites stay in the education field and in classroom teaching specifically longer than the non-NWP teachers.

Many CAWP teachers have won awards for excellence.  13 have been awarded the Golden Apple teaching award, and 22 have achieved National Board Certification and four have received Fulbright scholarships.
